  1. I think OCON will help students view themselves as citizens who are responsible for adhering to and promoting social justice.

  2. I believe that with the combination of practices, such as Care4Kids, students will identify themselves as individuals. OCON will assist with helping students understand their rights as citizens, as well as their peers. Awareness of this alone will hopefully promote social justice~

  4. I think OCON will provide students with a chance to be exposed to social justice issues in a kid friendly manner. Some of these topics are very sensitive, but if we do not bring the topics to the forefront students will not know how to appropriately deal with the topic when an issue arises.

  8. With increasing population in the county and the world, people will not, be as isolated and self-sufficient as in past generations. Therefore, teaching must address the tennants of negociation and compromise so that people of the future can learn to empathize and live together in harmony. This curriculum is vary detailed in following a path to this end.

  9. I think the OCON curriculum provides more opportunities for students to gain perspectives from a variety of viewpoints, and in turn, have discussions which will promote critical thinking and analysis of possible outcomes for behaviors in difficult social situations.

  10. I think that OCON will help students address social justice because the curriculum is designed in a very "real" way. Students are provided with real-life examples and events that will help them develop their knowledge of the different concepts being taught. I think that conveying the idea discussed today will give the students a different perspective of fairness. If we teach them that fairness is about everyone getting what they need rather than what they want they should shed a different light on the situation. Even though the teacher shown in today's video had a very unorthodox way of teaching about social justice, the main objective of the lesson was made clear to her students and they understood what the lesson was about. I am very eager to begin the curriculum and hope that OCON can help me to develop more productive citizens of our local communities!

  11. I think the OCON curriculum will help our students become more aware of social injustices that occur in our community/world. Often times students do not see beyond THEIR reality to see that there is an entire world out there that reaches beyond their front and back yard. It will also promote an inate compassion and empathy for others.
